What about cable terminations?

What are the capabilities and length requirements? Each RS-485 line, accommodating up to 32 DART's may be up to 2000 feet long, total. If greater lengths are required a repeater may be used to allow up to 4000 feet, total. All RS-485 cables must be high quality 24 AWG, dual twisted pair with each paOur experience here in the factory while experimenting with very long cables, has been that we are better off with no termination resistors. The "book" says you should have terminators due to reflections within the cable system. Many factors are involved, such as cable length, wire size and twist, cable shielding, number of connections, number of DARTs, and noise levels in the area. So our position is that it depends on the specific installation. If you feel you have poor communication due to cable problems contact Novx Products, and we will be happy to discuss the situation with you.ir shielded and an additional shield overall. Cable of any lesser quality may reduce the maximum length capability and increase communication errors.
