What about cabling?

Answer:

What are the capabilities and length requirements? Each RS-485 line, accommodating up to 32 DART's may be up to 2000 feet long, total. If greater lengths are required a repeater may be used to allow up to 4000 feet, total. All RS-485 cables must be high quality 24 AWG, dual twisted pair with each pair shielded and an additional shield overall. Cable of any lesser quality may reduce the maximum length capability and increase communication errors.
